Growing Chives
Chives are an easy to grow perennial herb, needing very little maintenance and can be grown in full sun or partial shade. Often used in salads for its strong onion like leaves but can their colourful
but also similar tasting and flowers add a pungent kick to culinary dishes.

Sow early spring by sprinkling a few seeds in a pot on top of, and slightly cover with some good quality compost. Water and allow 7-14 days for germination.

Once the seedlings have established and grown to fill its pot, either transplant to the ground, or repot in a slightly larger container.

Chives are easy to maintain but require extra water during dry spells or hot weather.

Chives die back late autumn and should be kept tidy by clearing away debris or dead foliage.

Rejuvenate your plants every 3 years by separating the root ball and planting separately.

Chives contain many vital nutrients such as potassium, iron and calcium, vitamins A and C, which accumulate to aid in bone strength, improved heart health, and has properties to help alleviate colds and upset stomachs.
